Basic principles for editing/writing

We follow three main objectives when writing articles

  • easy understandability:
    • the language: the scientific use of language often uses complex grammatical structures and lot's of terminus technicus. Doing this because in scientific articles one of the main goals is maximizing exactitude. On the other hand scientific language decreases greatly the understandability of the texts. Often it's hard to read a professional article even for experts as well. So in the articles of Psychology 2.0 we avoid scientific language, using simple sentences and using common words when it's possible.
    • visual communication: placing visuals (images, charts) in the article can help greatly the understanding, but not always. We advice to use images when you want to illustrate a thing that has many parts working together or pictures that show some information in relation to each other. Visual illustration has an advantage in showing relations between things and helps paralell information processing. We store the images of this site in scalable vector graphics (svg) format which means the pictures are editable with the appropriate softwares. As a vector graphics program Inkscape, wich is an open-source cross-platform easy-to-handle graphics software.
    • structure: the text is divided into chapters, which cover the main topics of the article. This dividing helps the organizing of the information to the reader.
    • multimedia: your can use multimedia content in articles..
    • slideshow format: making presentations of an article are often the best way to transmit the information quickly. The enginge of this site can show articles in a slideshow format.
  • neutrality-objectivity: the main goal of science is to form an authentic and precise image of the world which enables us to understand it's nature and and deeper laws. It's widely known in psychology if we have strong affections or stereotypes concerning an object, than we see the object distorted. In other words we see things or features on the object that it doesn't have, and can't notice features that are present. In psychology, where all the perceived things are invisible and very complex the mentioned danger is high. We shall advice to not have stereotypes or affections while thinking, but it's also known from psychology that stereotypes and affections can't be ignored because they are integrated parts of thinking. But still it helps a lot if you keep being sceptic even with your own thoughts. The basic method of science is the following circle that we can advice:
    • form the theory
    • test: check if it's contradictory with the experiences and if it's contradictory with itself
    • review: change if needed, reform the theory to be able to describe...

Editing article

In a wiki each page can be edited using a very simple word processor. You can access the word processor by clicking on "Edit" in the left-bottom corner or above the article.

The text you type in the editor box appears as you typed in. Thus, using special characters you can format your text and using special commands you can access special features. The possibilities are unlimited, but you will need three basic features in addition to typing in a text.

  • Different levels of heading to split your text in sections

If you put a "!" at the beginning of a row, that row becomes a heading (bigger fonts). If you put 2 exclamation marks it becomes a sub-heading. If 3, then sub-sub-heading. See below chapter

  • Producing lists

If a row starts with "*" (asterix) it becomes a part of a buleted list. If you put "#" it will be a numbered list If you put 2 or 3 (**, *** resp. ##, ###) sub-lists appear. See below

  • Below the edit box (the blue area after you pressed Edit on a page) you can find a short reminder on the usage of different special characters.
  • Further information available on basic editing in the documentation or on advanced editing on PmWiki's homepage
  • table of contents: you can create a table of contents into the article by putting the "(:toc:)" directive into the text. Every heading with exclamation mark(s), "!" will be listed in the table.
  • discussion page: hogyan lehet discussion page-et kreálni?
  • further topics to explain: while you are editing an article you will probably find topics that aren't integrated parts of the article but they are related and you wouldn't mind if somebody would explain them or would create an article about them. For this purpose you can make blind links. You can create links for a future article to tell the others that here is a topic to explain. hogyan is? These links are marked by dotted underline and a small question mark in superscript at the end of the word. By clicking on them one can create the new article.
  • using history: undo changes guest ezt tudja csinálni, egyáltalán milyen jogok szükségesek az editáláshoz?
  • ha nincs egyetértés az editálásban, akkor azt a discussion page-en lehet megdumálni...

Writing article

You can start a new page by clicking on "New Article" buttom at the top of the page. Right after you clicked you will be asked for the new article's Groupname and Pagename. The wiki's articles are organized into groups that contains the pages. One page means one article. So if you want to create a new article, first please choose a group for it from the list below or if none of the groups is appropriate than figure out a new groupname. The pagename must be relatively short and beszédes because it will appear on the top of your article (independent from the title of the article).

After the article is created you can edit it as edit all the existing articles. See the edit section above.

Since you have created it, it automatically appear on the Newest articles list and becomes searchable as well ??? valóban? . You can link it into other related articles text as well with editing them.

You can delete your article by editing it: clear all the text so it will become a blank page. Write the word "delete" into the article and save it. Now it is deleted.

Please always start inserting the table of contents and discussion page.

Publishing your idea

On Psychology 2.0 everybody is free to share her/his concept on different aspects of human life.

This can be done in two ways:

  • with voting (articles with scientific purposes) or
  • without voting

Voting helps gathering a summarized feed-back from the community where the seniority in psychology also counts. See more on Voting

Less summarised feed-back you can get also without voting: community members will edit, criticise, comment your thoughts.

So, are you ready to share your idea?

First you have to register. If you want to try the features without registering, use the sandbox.

If you are registered

  • click on Edit (found in left-bottom corner) to start adding your ideas
  • or use the commentbox on each page footer

First familiarize with wiki editing, then start to write or check the help on how to create a new page.

If you would like to follow-up closely what happens with your new page, use our RSS feed tool (will be implemented in 2Q08) to receive immediate notifications when somebody edited or added something to the page created by you

Good luck and welcome to the community!

Added lines 1-14:

Publishing your idea

On Psychology 2.0 everybody is free to share her/his concept on different aspects of human life. This can be done in two ways:

  • with voting (articles with scientific purposes) or
  • without voting

Voting helps gathering a summarized feed-back from the community where the seniority in psychology also counts. See more on Psy2.Voting Less summarised feed-back you can get also without voting: community members will edit, criticise your thoughts.

So, are you ready to share your idea? First familiarize with wiki editing, than start to write.

If you would like to follow-up closely what happens with your new page, use our RSS feed tool (will be implemented in 2Q08) to receive immediate notifications when somebody edited or added something to the page created by you

Good luck and welcome to the community!
